Having guided hundreds of eloping couples with our full-service elopement packages, I’ve heard every kind of elopement scenario that can come up, and below are announcement cards for every single one. The cards are great for announcing to anyone that you don’t tell over the phone or in-person, or if you want to send something special in the mail to those you’ve already told.

The cards speak to the various family and friend dynamics that you’re navigating. They offer solutions for the question “Uh, how do we tell them?” I made the cards so that you can easily and quickly have something to print and send (after all, elopements are about simple, affordable and stress-free).

The designs are varied to mountain, beach, desert and elegant themes, and the wording is sensitive to the sometimes-delicate nature of announcing an elopement. Like…

  • When you already eloped and you’re letting people know.

  • When you’re inviting just your closest loved ones.

  • When there are people you want or need to tell, but they’re not invited.

  • When you eloped but like the phrase “we got married” better than “ we eloped” ;)

No worries, I’ve got you covered! No matter who you’re sending to, you’ll find the perfect card below…

So you plan to elope and then afterward let people know that you’re married.

Maybe you’re telling no one beforehand, or just your closest friends/family but not anybody else. If you’re sending to any folks who won’t hear the news before it happens, then this card is for you.

The message on this card fits for ALL reactions. Let’s of course picture everyone congratulating and celebrating you. And sometimes with elopements there are those who have opinions or emotions about it…

The biggest worry that I hear from couples: “How do we tell them in a way that doesn’t hurt their feelings or cause an uproar?”

That's where the wording on this card comes in. "We want to share the adventure with you" opens the door to write a note on the back, letting them know they’re important to you, and that you want them to share in the joy of your day even if they weren’t physically there. Express that you can’t wait to tell them about the experience and that you’re so excited to send photos.

If you're having a celebration party or dinner with family and/or friends back home in the months after your elopement, invite them on the back of the card, expressing how much it would mean to celebrate together, share photo/video and tell them all about your adventure.

When You’re Planning Your Elopement & Inviting Just Your Closest Loved Ones

This is another common scenario: You’re eloping and you’re bringing just a few close family members or family & friends with you. In this case, the message “we want to share the adventure with you” is an invitation to the elopement. On the back of the card, you write your heartfelt invite note.

In these cases, it’s typical to have already spoken to the folks who are coming before you send a card because it’s common to pick your elopement date based on when that handful of people can come. So this is more the follow-up to the conversations that you’ve already had. It’s a sweet way to formally invite them since receiving a card in the mail feels special when everything these days is so internet-oriented.

Or, if you’re inviting some via card without phoning first, then the message on this card also work.

“But wait,” you say - “What if we’re NOT inviting some people or everyone, but we still need or want to tell them?”

Read on because the next card message will do just that for you!

When There Are People You Want Or Need To Tell, But They’re Not Invited

One of the most common scenarios: You haven’t eloped yet and it’s going to be just the two of you.

Or you’re bringing a few close loved ones with you AND there are others who are close to you who aren’t invited, but they’re important enough that you need some graceful way to tell them that it’s happening.

Plus it feels important to you that these people know beforehand, rather than after.

So how to gracefully tell those not invited… that they’re not invited??

The card message here may best fits your sentiment: “You’re special to us and we want you to know”. Send to those not invited, and write a note about your excitement to share the experience with them afterward via photos and/or video. Write something like, “We’re letting the people who are most important to us know this is happening, and you’re so important that we want you to know before it happens.”

If you’re having a celebration party or dinner in the months after your elopement, invite them! You’re conveying that you want them to be part of your experience of being newly married, while at the same time indicating that you’ll see them after the elopement rather than during ;)

Or, if the “we want to share the adventure with you” message (mentioned earlier on this page) feels like a better fit for some or all who weren’t invited, that works too.

When You Eloped Or Are Eloping, But Like “We Got Married” or “We’re Getting Married” Better Than “We Eloped”

Ha! There are so many ways to tell people that you’re eloping or that you eloped.

I made this card message for those of you who like the sound of saying “We got married” or “We’re getting married” better than “We eloped” or “We’re eloping”.

It’s not that eloping is a bad word. AND maybe you want to focus on the getting married part rather than exactly how you’re doing it.

If you go this route, you can pick a design on the download page with the “married” language, and choose between “we want to share the adventure with you” or “you’re special to us and we want you to know”, depending on whether you’re sending to any who are invited or those who are not invited.

That’s it! You did it! You scanned all the options. Which one best fits you?

And Since You’re Eloping, You’re Probably Thinking About Writing Your Vows…

If you want step-by-step guidance, here’s a link to my Vow Adventure Kit. I’ve officiated for more than 900 couples since 2013 and in that time they’ve all used this kit to write the most amazing, beautiful, meaningful vows.

Even if you’re not a natural writer or don’t think of yourself as “good with words”, the Vow Kit will guide you to easily write them in such a way that feels simply like you talking, rather than some elevated poetry that you might be worried you need to write.

This is the most meaningful way to write your vows.

It will feel so good to share them with your soon-to-be spouse on your day, and he/she/they will feel your love and commitment deeply when hearing them.
