Rocky Mountain Elopement: Peaks And Lakes

The Soul Of Meghan & Terin’s Elopement:

Epic Peaks, Mirrored Lakes & The Best Vows Ever

It all started at the highest mountain road pass in Rocky Mountain National Park. Meghan and Terin walked the terrain off of Trail Ridge Road - the perfect mountain immersion and time to connect, just the two of them, before saying “I Do”.

These two wanted not only stunning peaks, but also alpine lakes, so we planned their elopement to then take them across the national park to Sprague Lake for a heartfelt ceremony with their family, not to mention a bunch of fun activities. There was a blessing with the four elements, a hand fasting, the start of a wine box tradition and a rose exchange too.

On the walk to the ceremony spot, Meghan told me that Terin can sometimes be shy and quiet, and that he is the sweetest man. I assumed that meant we would probably hear just a few words from Terin during the ceremony. But my goodness, that couldn’t have been further from the truth! When it was time for vows, Terin had written Meghan a novel filled with deep thoughts, memories, so much emotion and so many proclamations of love.

There is something about tears from the groom during the ceremony - it always results in everyone else allowing tears to flow as well. I think it’s because in our culture it’s harder for men to show their emotions and so when they do, everyone else really feels it too.

This paved the way for Meghan to share her gorgeous written-from-scratch vows too. Thank you two - for being fully present for your commitment to one another. It was deeply moving to witness.

Come along with us on Meghan & Terin’s adventure across Rocky Mountain National Park…

After romantic photos up on Trail Ridge Road, Meghan & Terin drove to the other end of the park to meet up with their family at Sprague Lake. There’s nothing more “mountain elopement” than getting ready in an alpine parking lot!

We walked the trail together to the ceremony spot at the dock, and along the way I had Meghan use a small terra cotta dish to collect water from the lake to use in their four elements blessing at the beginning of the ceremony. We used soil from the lakebed, fire and air from a candle and the water from the lake to do the blessing. It was especially meaningful that Meghan gathered the water herself.

The ceremony not only had a four elements blessing, after that came hand fasting, those incredibly meaningful vows, a wine box ceremony and to close, one of the little guys brought us roses for a rose exchange.

Hugs were had by all, family members were honored and plenty of group photos were taken to round out the evening as the light began to dim. Congratulations Meghan & Terin - you did it!
