Dharusal & Roman’s elopement was rich with tradition. With Dharusal having grown up in a Hindu household and Roman in a Christian one, it was important to them to weave elements of both into their ceremony, while at the same time honoring their own spiritual but not religious style.
The result was so much thoughtful symbolism. We planned an elopement evening that incorporated a first look, a lovely “we’re about to get married” photo shoot, and plenty of time to enjoy the ceremony. They exchanged flower garlands, did hand fasting and even planted a baby tree.
The weaving of different styles also spoke to the strength in Dharusal and Roman’s connection. These two have a relationship that thrives because they have learned (and continue to learn) the art of opposites - two very different personalities working together to create so much more than they each would have had on their own.
All of this on a mountain top! Plus they live Zoomed their ceremony so that friends and family could share in the love. Come along on our photo story to see all of the beauty that these two created on their day…
The First Look
Roman took in the view while he waited for Dharusal to tap him on the shoulder for their first look photos. Then they had a sweet photo shoot to enjoy the mountain and each other in anticipation of the ceremony.
Ceremony Highlights
It was a stunning evening so we made sure to take time to soak in the beauty. We also started the ceremony with a prayerful moment to reflect on what will make a strong and satisfying marriage for these two.
Dharusal and Roman have such a cool combo of qualities in their connection - a solidity and depth between them, while also a good dose of playfulness. There was plenty of love and plenty of laughter as the ceremony began.
The exchanging of flower garlands is a Hindu tradition - this represents the desire to be married to one another. We combined this with the “I Do’s” in their ceremony.
Plus those garlands are so lush and beautiful!
We also did hand fasting as Dharusal and Roman’s version of the Hindu ceremony tradition to wrap scarves around the couple that are then tied together to symbolize their eternal bond as they make vows.
They brought red ribbons for the hand fasting, each ribbon representing one of six qualities that they identified as being important to them in their marriage.
There is something so solid about making vows while hands are fasted together, symbolizing a foundation of connection. Plus it feels snug and good.
These two wrote their own vows using my Vow Adventure Kit. Their words and commitments to one another were heartfelt, moving and meaningful.
Meanwhile, friends and family were watching not only vows but the entire ceremony via Zoom.
And then… we planted a tree!
This was Dharusal & Roman’s own tradition - the planting of a tree to nurture and care for as they in turn nurture and grow their relationship.
They added water for love, and soil to nourish the roots, then exchanged rings to seal the deal.
Married!
