Mountain Elopement With All The Feels

The Heart Of Jordan & John’s Mountain Elopement

Feeling All The Feels

Jordan and John’s mountain elopement is a great example of how to get the most out of your wedding day: allow yourself to feel it all. As an officiant, I tell my couples: don’t hold back because you’re worried about how you’ll look in the photos, or because you think you have an ugly cry face, or because you’re worried that you’ll get so choked up that you can’t get your vows out.

The truth is: The fact that you are feeling intense emotion means that this is the real thing.

And how cool is that?? You love this person so much that standing in your ceremony, making vows to one another and just the sheer meaning of the moment brings you to tears. I say why on earth would you want to pass up the opportunity to feel the depth of your connection and love!

Jordan and John didn’t pass up that opportunity. Laughter, tears, deep love. They felt it all. And it was beautiful.

All of my photographers tell me that the couples who allow themselves to feel are also the couples who end up with the very best photos. Think about it - what’s a more interesting photo - one where the couple is stiff because they are holding back emotion so they look good for the photos, or one where the couple is deeply immersed in feeling their love for one another?

Enjoy these photos of Jordan and John’s experience while giving yourself permission to feel it all at your own elopement. Let’s start with that awesome moment right after the first look…

After their first look, they did a pre-ceremony photo shoot, which is a great way to settle into “wow, we’re about to get married”. They took in views and got to revel in the beauty of the being surrounded by gorgeous mountains as far as the eye can see.

These two wanted to video their ceremony, so with equipment and all, they walked the trail to the ceremony spot. Who says you can’t get married and be the videographer all at once!

Photographer Sharee and I thought this was the cutest thing. Jordan was the expert at setting up the camera, so John became the expert at holding her wedding dress so that she could get the job done:

We picked a secluded and private forest spot with a beautiful “window view” of the mountains.

It was a really fun ceremony - so much laughter and connection as these two reflected on the life that they’d created thus far together and all the moments that had brought them to their wedding day.

Their vows were thoughtful, real and deeply touching - that’s when the tears came.

And then… celebration!

Next, more romantic moments on the mountain, this time married…

Plus there was a really funny surprise…

The park was doing some trail maintenance that we didn’t know about, and when we arrived at one of our photo spots there was a huge… CAT excavator. Yep. Talk about the opposite of romantic lol. But for these two it was actually the most romantic thing of all - John and Jordan have a son together, who was back home during the adventure and who they were deeply missing. Turns out their son is obsessed with, of all things - CAT excavators!

If that isn’t the definition of serendipity and some kind of sign that your day is blessed, I don’t know what is. I mean, what are the odds?? So we had to take some photos for the little guy.

When it was time to end and sign the marriage license, we had a teeny sprinkling of rain, so we signed in true rugged mountain elopement style - back at the trunk of John & Jordan’s car!
