Katey & Joe - For The Love Of Mountains

With Lisa Hunter, Colorado Wedding Officiant - at Spruce Mountain Ranch

The Heart Of Katey & Joe’s Wedding Ceremony:

A Love Affair With Mountains

When I think of Katey and Joe and what I learned about them during the wedding passage, I see an image of Katey perched on a rock off the side of a mountain trail, writing in her journal, and Joe not too far away exploring the nooks and crannies of the landscape around them, their dogs Olive and Claire by his side.

It’s what these two do. Before they got their dogs, it was adventures with skate board ramps and backyard putting greens and dry ice bomb shenanigans with friends, but when Olive and Claire entered the picture, they discovered just how much they absolutely love being in nature.

You can see why they picked Spruce Mountain Ranch then, with it’s dreamy Colorado meadows, forests and endless big wide open mountain views.

Come along for their photo story below to see the ceremony elements that they chose to represent their love story with each other and with our Rocky Mountain wild lands…

Setting The Scene

Spruce Mountain Ranch is an incredible spot for a ceremony. The rolling land, the forests and the meadows - there is something so peaceful there. Every time I arrive in the parking lot, my busy mind immediately settles as I look out over all that beautiful open space.

Ceremony Highlights

Katey and Joe chose a quote from John Muir which describes that feeling that happens when you’re immersed in nature and it wakes you back up to an aliveness within yourself that you had forgotten was there. The remembering - ah, yes that’s right, we are wild. It could not have been more perfect for these two.

I shared about a moment next to a creek in California that was filled with sparkling black obsidian, a spot that Katey and Joe discovered during one of their many adventures with the dogs. They simply soaked in the quiet and peace of that place - magical. It was one of those quintessential moments that encapsulated everything that these two love.

We also did hand fasting, using seven ribbons to tie in a knot around their clasped hands. Each ribbon represented qualities that these two will return to again and again in their marriage to come. They chose Friendship, Loyalty, Adventure, Nature, Honesty, Love and Respect.

Vows were written from scratch using my Vow Adventure Kit, and we called on Katey’s father and Joe’s aunt to hold the cards for Katey and Joe to read while their hands were fasted together.

A ring exchange, the sweetest kiss and…

Married!

Congratulations, Katey and Joe!

May your life unfold before you just like a mountain trail. May you remain best friends, laugh and play, and continue to work hard to create a life where you can do the things you love together. May you continue to grow and become better versions of yourselves, supporting each other through difficult times and celebrating together when you succeed. And may you travel the world, love on your animal companions, raise children who thrive, hike hundreds of trails and make amazing memories for years to come. So much love, Lisa.
