Elopement Dogs - When They're Instagram Rockstars

Special Album: Elopement Dogs

Dante & Antaeus At Their Mom & Dad’s Elopement

I was blogging about Arianne & David’s elopement and found myself wanting to post every-single-photo of their dogs. That’s when it occurred to me - we can have an “elopement dog blog” too! So many of our couples are dog lovers and bring their fur babies with them, I’m going to write a bunch more elopement dog blog posts coming soon.

So these two are going to kick it off. And it’s apropos - they’re no strangers to the camera. Dante & Antaeus have a huge following on Instagram (@dantesdivinewoof). This mountain top wedding is just one moment in their very adventurous lives.

It starts with a wait in the car while Arianne & David have their first look. But then the fun begins for our canine friends. First a short hike through the pine trees to the ceremony spot…

You know your mom loves you when she’s got a backpack not only filled with wedding stuff, but also with a collapsible water bowl ready for you when you need it.

We arrive at our spot and um, let’s talk about those bow ties!

Our team just about fell over with cuteness overlaod when Dante & Antaeus stepped out from the car in high fashion.

These two got to be best man and ring bearer, calling for dapper outfits of course, and the best in elopement dog style ;)

Dante is the older dog and Antaeus is his son. Both their names come from Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Here’s their view from a nearby tree as we started the ceremony:

The ceremony started and Dante & Antaeus got to settle in. They were so mellow and just hung out the entire time.

That’s not always the case with elopement dogs, but we tell our couples that it’s all good either way since you can’t really predict how your dog is going to respond during your time on the mountain. If you’ve got a highly energetic dog who doesn’t tend to ever sit still, our advice is that if you bring him or her, be prepared to spend as much time focusing on the dog as on your ceremony. For some couples, this is fine - the priority is that their dog is with them.

Or… if you’ve got a dog who does well with hanging out and being chill, then of course that works too.

Dante & Antaeus were definitely chill!

The best kind of witnesses as I pronounced Arianne & David husband and wife. And when we signed the marriage license.

When the photographer whisked Arianne & David off on their “just the two of us” photo adventure around the mountain, I had the joy of hanging out with the dogs. They were ready to be back with their mom and dad though, and spent the entire time facing anxiously toward the rock outcropping that Arianne & David had disappeared behind. I got these cute shots with my iPhone as they waited and then could hardly contain themselves as they heard Arianne & David’s voices coming back up the mountain.

Arianne also loves the first pic because Dante’s brown spot looks like a heart. So much love here:

Next it was time for a photo shoot with the whole family. Together again! These are the sweetest pics, so I’m going to post a lot of them lol.

Congratulations Dante & Antaeus - your mom and dad are married!
